Optical

I saw a display that Architectural Plastics designed and fabricated for one of my company's competitors and it would be perfect for our product as well. Could you supply a similar design to my company?

Yes and no. We strive to set apart each client's company using design, materials, and graphics while maintaining functionality to display their product in a unique way. Rather than providing a virtually identical display for your company, we would want to take a fresh look at what your product needed using our years of experience and your budget in determining various alternatives. Working together with you, we create something special, which gives your product the edge needed in today's marketplace.

Do you have a catalog of stock displays that you could send me?

No. We do have photographs of previous displays done for other clients, some of which can be viewed on this website. As a custom fabrication company, we want to create something special for your product.

How does the design and prototyping process work with Architectural Plastics?

Initially we discuss your product and how you envision it being displayed. We then go to work using this information and other details like budget and any time constraints you may have to produce some sketches of possible displays. Once a concept is approved, we then can produce a more detailed drawing with a quote based on that design. Typically, clients will order one to fifty prototypes for evaluation purposes. Once the evaluation process is complete, production can begin.

Museums, Art Dealers, Private Collectors

Architectural Plastics has designed and fabricated protective cases, frames and bases for art objects for over two decades. Having worked with conservators and curators in the field, we understand the requirements of fragile and priceless art. Our direction is to display/secure the art with minimum distraction. When designing, we provide maximum viewing of the art without having our cases detract from its beauty.

Why do museums use acrylic instead of glass?

Acrylic sheet provides excellent light transmission, low distortion and does not yellow after prolonged exposure to UV light. It is significantly more shatter-resistant than glass and weighs half as much.

What brand of acrylic do you use for your vitrines?

We use acrylite GP manufactured by Cy/Ro industries. This is a cell cast acrylic sheet of the highest quality.

Is ultraviolet-filtering acrylic available?

Yes. Ultra-violet can be more than 200 times more damaging than visible light. Because we build cases to display and protect many valuable items, we use Acrylite OP2 UV-filtering acrylic. This product retains its clarity while filtering out more than 98% of harmful ultra-violet light. It is an excellent solution to safeguard valuable art from damage and fading due to UV light.

Is there a way to make acrylic more scratch-resistant?

Yes. CYRO AR (abrasion resistant) acrylic sheet is available in GP as well as OP-2. It utilizes the proprietary 3M 906 abrasion resistant coating on one or both sides to offer 40 times greater resistance to marring and chemical attack than uncoated acrylic.

Do you build cases for private collectors?

Yes. Also for dealers, galleries and picture framers.

Do you help with the design of cases or display of the art objects?

Yes. Contact us with your requirements and we will be happy to help you or advise other professional help.

Do you only build the acrylic part of the case or do you also provide wooden or other type bases?

We can provide complete cases made from any material you specify including wood, metal, laminate, CORIAN® and others.
