Tru Vue Optium® Museum
AcrylicTM is designed to meet the demanding optical
requirements of the custom framing and museum industries. Two anti-static,
anti-reflective grades are available, with two levels of UV protection, 93%
Optium Acrylic® or 98% Optium Museum Acrylic®.
Optium is a "preservation" grade material, suitable for use to protect
against vandalism, UV damage and moisture, if the casing is properly designed and
built. Architectural Plastics can fabricate your design, or create a design for
you.
Almost half the weight of glass, Optium Museum Acrylic provides increased
strength and durability and is the only acrylic product available combining
both a high quality sputtered anti-reflection coating and superior 98%
ultraviolet light blocking protection.
- Anti-Reflective – significantly reduces light reflection. Virtually invisible with direct viewing.
- Maximum UV protection – up to 98%. Protects against fading and yellowing.
- Anti-Static – does not retain electrostatic charge (suitable for pastels, chalk, charcoal)
- Lightweight – approximately 30% lighter than glass.
- Enhanced Security – shatter resistant.
- Cleans like glass with ammonia-free cleaner.
Optium Museum Acrylic is manufactured utilizing a clear abrasion/UV-resistant acrylic sheet. A sputtered thin film multi-layered anti-reflection coating is applied to both sides of the sheet using patented Tru Vue Optium technology. The coating is engineered to meet stringent optical requirements.

Handling |
Cotton or nitrile rubber gloves should be worn to minimize finger-prints and other particles. |
|
|
|
|
|
Optium Acrylic® products are covered with a protective film masking on each surface. This masking prevents scratching during handling and cutting and should be left in place on the sheet as long as possible. |
|
|
To remove the masking, start at one corner and pull towards the opposite side of the sheet slowly and evenly without stopping. |
|
|
The masking should never be exposed to excessive sunlight or outdoor conditions for extended periods of time. |
|
|
|
|
Framing: 40”x60” + |
To prevent bowing, twisting, and/or warping during framing, provide reinforcing support of the acrylic sheet during framing. |

|
|
Cleaning |
Place the acrylic on a clean, non-abrasive surface for cleaning. |
|
|
Use a clean, soft, lint-free or micro-fiber cloth to clean. |
|
|
Do not use coarse or abrasive cleaning agents or dirty cloths. |
|
|
Spray an ammonia-free cleaner onto the cloth and wipe the acrylic. |
|
|
Never spray cleaner directly on the acrylic. |
|
|

Cutting |
3.0mm Optium Museum Acrylic® and Optium Acrylic® |
|
|
Place Optium on a clean, dust-free work area. |
|
|
Cover the work table with a soft, clean, lint-free felt. |
|
|
Use a Multi-Material cutter “scribe and break” method.
|
|
Cutting 6.0mm |
Fabricate using a power saw with a saw blade specifically designed to cut acrylic. Ask us for saw blade recommendations.
